My love affair with…

My love affair with…

…twitter.  Or how a Twitter outage means I can sit here and realise just how sad I am becoming.  Yes, I can’t believe it.  Twitter is down.  They might as well take the whole internetz offline zomg.

Sitting here hitting F5 over and over, I realised I am far too ‘into’ Twitter.  Yes, some would even call it an obsession.  Need further proof?  Last week I officially added a hashtag to my middle name via statutory declaration.  I think that says enough.

It also proves that over the course of a year, such a simple medium can dominate ones life, and I know I’m not the only one.  Fellow and favoured tweeters such as @torybear, @sscrltt and even @Donal_Blaney have been swiftly enamoured by the trend (Ed: Good pun on trending).  Come on Blaney, I’ve seen you hashtagging your little heart out.

Furthermore, at CPAC earlier this year, I made it a point to further my intention to start hashtagging spoken sentences, handwritten statements and words in e-mails and places where they wouldn’t serve as meta-search buttons.  The point?  Well, it’s three-fold.

Firstly, I’m a nerd. #geekchic

Secondly, I have a remarkably strange sense of humour. #woodyallen

Thirdly, it helps me to summarise a statement in one word.  #closure

So these are my reasons for being so obsessed with Twitter as a service.  So much so that I now control 8 accounts, although some are redundant and others used just for monitoring.  Some excellent tools for my fellow Twitter enthusiasts to check out are things such as TwitterFall or Qwitter.

And remember, kids – follow @keeprightonline for your soundest libertarian rantings.

I know, I know – we should have thrown our hats into the ring much sooner on this one! Apologies all, but today KeepRightOnline joins the #kerryout campaign. If you recall, we started the #sackkerrymp hashtag back in September 2009 and implore anyone and everyone who hasn’t donated yet to do so. Go on, gissa few bob.

It’s game time!

Props to CCHQ et al for organising what was a most splendid ‘bloggers lunch’ today, discussing with the key people in the CCHQ social media scene the merits and pitfalls of the right-wing blogosphere, as well as hearing the ever welcome views from the activists who lead the charge on the ground and online.

‘Game time’ it certainly was, as we discussed the differences between the Labour and Tory blogospheres, where the battles can be won, and where the battles are clearly being lost (Ed: I wonder if Kerry McCarthy came up?)

The biggest and best were present, vocal and in good spirits. Let’s carry the vigour into the new year and show the lost left why they just don’t get social media.

Bear to the Future? (Ed: Nope, no good.)

Bear to the Future? (Ed: Nope, no good.)

Many of us know Tory Bear for his ability to travel internationally within the space of minutes, but now it appears he’s traveling through time!

Yes, Mr. Bear’s latest post comes to us incredibly enough, from tomorrow! (Check the date on the headline).

The bear brings us the best from the future...

This is how we do it…

After Tory Bear’s recent revelation of his, let’s face it, amateurish geekfest yesterday; KeepRightOnline thought they’d share this editor’s COMMAND CENTRE with you dear readers. Videos, pictures… nerd heaven.

Exclusive: Cowell and Cole doing the fandango

Exclusive: Cowell and Cole doing the fandango

colecowellYes, that’s right, we’re breaking the story that others only wish they could get. The innuendo has been growing since Cole’s first appearance in summer of last year. You could cut the sexual tension with a knife (Ed: or a key?). We’ve had our suspicions for a while, but we’ve just had it confirmed by a few people in the know. It can mean only one thing. That’s right: Simon Cowell is having his way with Harry Cole.

Now that’s a story.

What do Stephen Fry, Tory Bear and Oprah have in common?

What do Stephen Fry, Tory Bear and Oprah have in common?

They’re all set to net a bundle, that’s what. “How?” I hear you ask. Well, it seems our friends at Twitter are trialling a pay-to-view system for premium account tweets. That’s right, you may soon be paying between £1 and £10 to view the personal musings of the likes of Ashton Kutcher, Kim Kardashian and Ed Balls. (Ed: I’d rather pay to view tweets from Ed Hallam!)

But is this really the most sustainable profit model for Twitter? We know the service is extraordinarily popular, and doesn’t really make any money currently. You’d think ad-revenue would be the way to go, especially with the likes of USocial offering $500,000 to display an ad on Twitter for just 24 hours.

That'll be £3.50 please, guv.

That'll be £3.50 please, guv.

Either way, this editor reckons charging to view is definitely the wrong way to go. It’s not as if they own the patent for creating a website for people to harp on endlessly about their social inadequacies or spout some nonsensical political drivel.

Uh-oh, what’s Blaney been up to?

Uh-oh, what’s Blaney been up to?

It’s a controversial day for The Bear! First, some clown posts a spoof website of www.harrycole.net, Harry’s personal consultancy site.

Genius.

Genius.

And now look what we have here. Since this image of Michael Rock taking bribes came about, and this image of a certain KeepRightOnline blogger was found, KRO have found yet more evidence of Blaney’s bungs

Remember remember…

This afternoon, this editor went out with our good friends TheAltCon and Tory Bear to Old Holborn’s march on Parliament to commemorate the 5th November, Guy Fawkes.

Remember remember chums, and check the pics and vids… (vids are broken, check back later)

Going up in smoke…

Posted on 02. Nov, 2009 by RK in United Kingdom

Bears wept, today and so did the editors of KeepRightOnline. The reason? Liberty was stabbed in the back. Just as we thought the Conservative Party was being steered in a libertarian, individualist direction, today even the most ‘radical’ David Davis was advocating the sacking of the Government advisor David Nutt.

What exactly did Mr. Nutt do wrong?

Undermining the Prime Minister? Government? Going beyond his remit in criticising policy? I thought advisors were there to advise, not toe the line and sit idly by as their factual evidence is tossed aside in the wake of politics. No, this man stood up for one of the only few subjects and professions which still rewards and reveres honesty and integrity: Science.

As much as the new Tories like to paint themselves as libertarians, we wish that social conservatives would stop using this term to describe themselves. You’re making a mockery of liberty and you’re making arses out of yourselves. Every time you dictate that the state knows best, in the face of stark evidence to the contrary, you fail us. You fail us.

I love science, you love authoritarianism. We suggest our like minded colleagues buy the t-shirt… literally.
