Christian right just wants tolerance? Pull the other one

Posted on 03. Feb, 2010 by OHC in International, United Kingdom

ConservativeHome religious contributor Melanchthon posted last night a so-called ‘Plea for Tolerance’, claiming that Christians were persecuted and looked down upon in political life.

We understand that the rest of you will never really accept our twisted, unnatural beliefs and practices – that would be too much to ask. We seek only toleration. Now, up until recently, many of you have been prepared to tolerate us in your own way. You may have quailed at really granting us full freedom to hit our children or deny abortions or contraception to our youths, but by and large, provided we kept our beliefs and practices personal, in the privacy of our homes, churches, and consciences, up to a point you were content to leave us alone.

The problem with the religious right is that they are not content to keep themselves to their own homes, churches, and consciences. They, by definition, try to fuse religion with politics.

Conservatives ought to be fine with parents telling their kids not to have abortions. But demanding legislation for other people’ kids is not fine. I’ll leave aside the ‘Christians just want full freedom to hit their children’ argument.

Particularly, they lose the right to call themselves private or persecuted when they demand legislation by virtue of this being a ‘Christian country’ or ‘Judeo-Christian morality’. They are public and proud of it, and by institutionalising their beliefs, they discriminate against other people.

And that would be fine if we believed that the state is the right venue for that, but we don’t. Indeed, the ‘religious right’, as believers in the state imposing their values on the rest of society, are not really right wing at all. They are left wing and centralising statists. As such, they deserve to be left behind.

Griffin represents EU in delicious irony

Posted on 29. Nov, 2009 by OHC in United Kingdom

The Observer has once again betrayed its political priorities with this delightful article on one Nicholas Griffin MEP, who’s due to represent the European Union at the Copenhagen Summit.

Now, there are lots of things wrong with the BNP leader going to Copenhagen. His biggest problem is that he’s a vile, racist far-left extremist. Even Better Off Outers could make a case to say that the EU shouldn’t be represented by Eurosceptics. But Griffin’s climate realism is at least one tiny redeeming feature of his. This isn’t the first time the Guardian has called it his only fault.

The Guardian’s friends lie and swindle us to get the political class on board their politicised climate change agenda. Now, once again, it seems their greatest objection to a party dedicated to ending our civilisation is that they don’t want to end it in environmentalist suicide at Copenhagen.

Guardianistas, get a grip on reality.

Clegg the Theologian

Posted on 27. Nov, 2009 by OHC in United Kingdom

This may be a periodically recurring section called: “Stop being a hypocrite, Clegg, you nonce”. Until then, we’re content with pointing out that Nick Clegg still hasn’t learned from his mistakes. Once again, the atheist Lib Dem leader is pouring adulation on minor religious celebrations:

Eid Al-Adha is preceded by the day of ‘Arafah and is one of the important days of Hajj. Eid Al-Adha is a joyous time and reminds us of all of the importance of hard work, togetherness and family.

If it’s such a joyous time that has such value to you, stop being an atheist and become a Muslim. But, oh, wait… that might not win as many votes as superciliously and hypocritically pretending to be a jolly fan of a religion that you explicitly reject. Doesn’t this man have something better to do with his time? Evidently not.

Monkey: British soldiers are terrorists

Posted on 13. Nov, 2009 by OHC in United Kingdom

Recess Monkey, in getting ever so slightly too excited about the prospect of Baroness Thatcher passing away, decided to lambast Thatcher’s legacy as being the mother of a ‘convicted terrorist’. So I assume Blair’s legacy is… what?

But that’s not the insulting part. Terrorist? How so? he was prosecuted under legislation that bans citizens or residents of South Africa from participating in any foreign conflict. It has been criticised for criminalising the eight hundred South Africans propping up the British Army. If Thatcher’s a terrorist, so are they.

But our soldiers aren’t terrorists, and neither is Mark Thatcher. He was a financier of an attempt to replace the military dictatorship in Equatorial GuineaAfrica’s worst dictator – with a legitimate government currently in exile. Kinda like what Labour did in Iraq, except without our money and our brothers’ blood being poured into it.

Labour insulting our soldiers. What’s new?

There’s mainstream… and then there are Lib Dems

There’s mainstream… and then there are Lib Dems

As this editor is about to pop out for lunch, he’s going to pass the Times offices. He likes the Times. But today he’s gonna wave his fist at them for sloppy Guardian-style journalism in writing this:

Mr Dowgielewicz represents the mainstream centre-right government, rather than the right-wing Law and Justice Party, which is an ally of Mr Cameron’s in the European Parliament.

We’ve already put to bed the accusation that they’re anti-semitic, homophobic, racists, misogynists, Nazis, or whatever the Guardian says they are. But, please, let’s also get rid of this absurd suggestion that Law and Justice are somehow not mainstream. Here’s a diagram to help explain the situation in the Sejm: the lower house of the Polish parliament (Ed: you used Paint? You’re such a GIMP):
Sejm

And here’s a diagram of the upper house of the Parliament, the Senate:
Senat

None, nada, zip. So, please tell me before you utter that word again: which party is allied to the mainstream party and which is allied to the extremists?

Jedward for PM

Jedward for PM

Not content with wrecking our constitution (Ed: he’s giving us a new one from Brussels, though), Gordon Brown has now turned on another national institution. That’s right, the PM has rounded on hopeless singers and generally shit X-Factor contestants John and Edward.

Jedward, as this editor has been led to believe they’re called, have stayed in the contest for longer than anyone expected. They’ve a joke, and have turned the whole contest into a laughing stock. Anyone grown up enough wants them out as soon as possible. Given how much they have in common with Gordon Brown, you’d think he wouldn’t be so mean to them.

Then again, they may be shit, but at least the people voted them in.

SNP leader defends Scots by being anti-Semitic

Posted on 01. Nov, 2009 by OHC in United Kingdom

The SNP is trying to drum up its credentials for defending Scottish civic virtue, rather than the nationalism that its ideology entails. Today, this has brought it into conflict with 185 million German-speakers by criticising use of the term ‘Scottish prices’ to promote discount goods.

Angus Robertson, the SNP’s leader in Westminster – and therefore the only candidate that could represent the SNP in a leaders’ debate – said:

You wouldn’t do it with orthodox Jews, so why do it with Scots? The constant association of our country and people with meanness and cheapness is beginning to hit at the borders of defamation and insult.

I’m sorry… what was that? Robertson thinks that orthodox Jews are stingy, but would oppose people saying it because it’s racist? Then what does it mean that he JUST SAID IT?! We think you’ll agree that that’s quite clearly anti-Semitic. We also think it requires an immediate clarification, retraction, and apology before KeepRightOnline reports him to Equality and Human Rights Commission.

But the SNP won’t apologise. They haven’t apologise for releasing an unrepentant mass murderer from prison. They haven’t apologised for mishandling the economy. And they haven’t apologised for their own anti-English and anti-British vitriol.

What are the chances that they’ll apologise for this?

Brown crumbles, but doesn’t take the biscuit

Brown crumbles, but doesn’t take the biscuit

Gordon Brown’s inability to name his favourite biscuit to mums in a recent webchat shocked the nation, but he’s now gone out of his way to make amends. In a new recipe book of Scottish celebrities’ favourite recipes, the Prime Minister has come out and divulged his favourite dessert dish!

Apple and blackberry crumble is a distraction from Gordon's hectic life. Twat.

Apple and blackberry crumble is a distraction from Gordon's hectic life. Twat.

Wonderful, I hear you say. The nation now has a return to good Presbyterian moral guidance and Scottish prudence (Ed: Err…). As I’m sure you’ll agree, the Prime Minister’s selection of apple and blackberry crumble shall, in time, restore Britain’s economy, make our military a force to be reckoned with, and heal the social divide in our country. Or not. But most (metaphorically) delicious is his favourite vegetable. What is it? Brussel sprouts.

Bet that changes if Tony Blair becomes President of Europe.

Diane Abbott criticising Question Time inviting on Nick Griffin:

If you are a black or Asian viewer tonight and you switch on the television and you see Nick Griffin on Question Time – it’s not a programme that’s going to scrutinise his views, it’s not that sort of programme, it’s politics as entertainment.

Is that because your programme just afterwards is so edgy and incisive, Diane?

Eurocrats ignore ECR… again

Eurocrats ignore ECR… again

The website of the European Conservatives and Reformists, ECRGroup.eu, has gone live. And, whilst it’s early stages, it looks bloody impressive for a new launch, too.

KRO-approved.

KRO-approved.

And it’s especially a good job, because the depressing Movement for European Reform website hadn’t been updated for two years – making the web presence of Cameron’s personal project to withdraw the Conservatives from the EPP look non-existent.

Despite the launch of this impressive new portal for the ECR, the European Parliament’s website has not added the ECR website to their directory of web pages – instead redirecting any people that wished to know more about the ECR back to the Parliament’s own propaganda page!

Orange represents a link to their own website; grey represents parties non grata.

Orange represents a link to their own website; grey represents parties non grata.

Whereas they immediately updated the euro-fanatic Socialists’ URL to reflect their new name, they have not given the link for the anti-federalist ECR or the (under-construction) website of UKIP’s eurosceptic EFD.

What are the odds?
