Mr. Hannan, I doff my cap to you…

Posted on 04. Nov, 2009 by RK in United Kingdom

Admirable.

Admirable.

It seems that as of this evening, Mr. Daniel Hannan, a true Conservative and libertarian (if he wasn’t so famed, I’d be lobbying him harder for regular guest posts) has stepped down from his position as appointed just two months ago on the front bench for Europe for the Conservative Party. And we fully understand.

While we wholly respect and understand Mr. David Cameron’s realistic calls for the ‘never again’ strategy, and we take seriously the legal and constitutional hurdles that Britain would now face to repatriate powers from Brussels- we can’t help but feel an awesome romantic allegiance to Daniel at this stand.

Of course, many would call the move foolish- and more the foolish they are for that. The United Kingdom is severely lacking in principled politicians such as Mr. Hannan, and KeepRightOnline are enormously proud that he once wrote for us on the European elections.

Mr. Hannan, I doff my cap to you. You may have served just two months in your position, but that certainly beats a certain Conservative Future National Executive Member. (Ed: Er… Less of that.)

Quote of the Day: Wellington Madrassah Edition

One eager YBF delegate certainly wins with his or her (Ed: but mostly her) effusive assault on the myth of the genial German in a question to Dan Hannan:

We’ve got to keep an eye on the Germans and make sure they don’t get all antsy about their borders every 60 years and, you know… march into Czechoslovakia.

Oo-er.

Daniel Hannan. Prescience personified.

Today we’ve learnt that the United Kingdom is still in a recession.  And a record breaking recession at that!  Since records began, we are in the worst situation the country has seen.  Six (count them) quarters of economic decline has now passed and Brown and Darling have yet to be heard to utter once again that they’ve ’saved the world’.

Our Prime Minister has harped on endlessly over the past 18 months about how Britain is in the best shape of all countries to exit the recession, thanks to Labour and their genius SPEND SPEND SPEND policy.  Well if there were ever any evidence that Mr. Brown wasn’t acting on any sound economic theory, it’s come today.

Our continental colleagues are out, so why are we still bearing the brunt of the economic landslide?  I think Daniel Hannan put it far better than I ever could.  Let’s recall what he said to Brown’s face in European Parliament nearly exactly 7 months ago:

You cannot spend your way out of recession or borrow your way out of debt. And when you repeat, in that wooden and perfunctory way, that our situation is better than others, that we’re ‘well-placed to weather the storm’, I have to tell you that you sound like a Brezhnev-era apparatchik giving the party line. You know, and we know, and you know that we know that it’s nonsense! Everyone knows that Britain is worse off than any other country as we go into these hard times. The IMF has said so; the European Commission has said so; the markets have said so – which is why our currency has devalued by thirty percent. And soon the voters too will get their chance to say so. They can see what the markets have already seen: that you are the devalued Prime Minister of a devalued government.

Or let’s watch it a la KRO:

One conference down, one to go!

That’s right ladies and gents- YBF6 is just around the corner. Renowed for training young politicos and activists, the YBF6 event is never more relevant. With scandal and sleaze at the forefront of British politics, many politicians and youngsters alike are likely to be caught out and scalped by the vultures that are both the media and the blogosphere.

YBF is known for informing activists to be honest, decent and transparent and all the while being able handle tricky and often misleading questions from the aforementioned organisations.

At just £120 (£65 for FT students) for 3 days/nights worth of training (and intense fun, I might add), this is not to be missed. This is your chance to learn about conservative ideas, meet and network with like-minded activists and receive valuable resource materials ahead of the General Election next year.

The 6th Young Britons’ Foundation Training Conference takes place at Wellington College, Berkshire from lunchtime of Friday, 23rd to lunchtime on Sunday 25th October 2009.

Confirmed speakers include:

* Eric Pickles MP, Conservative Party Chairman
* Rt Hon Lord Forsyth, Former Secretary of State for Scotland
* Daniel Hannan MEP
* Douglas Carswell MP
* Paul Goodman MP, Shadow Home Office Minister
* Greg Hands MP, Shadow Treasury Minister
* Andrew Rosindell MP, Shadow Home Office Minister
* Matthew Elliot, TaxPayers’ Alliance
* Iain Dale, Blogger and Publisher
* Paul Staines, Guido Fawkes
* Nick Wood, Former CCHQ Head of Media

New Statesman Libel Tories

Posted on 21. Sep, 2009 by RK in United Kingdom

Let this image stand as the proof that New Statesman magazine has slandered the Tory party as being institutionally racist. The rag soon removed the article from their website. This came after claims that Daniel Hannan acknowledging that racism existed meant that he was racist himself. Idiots at LabourList never cease to amaze.

So, what happened to the piece? Did New Statesman realise that actually, admitting something exists doesn’t make one a proponent of it? If so, why don’t they teach that to some of their friends in the Labour Party.

racismslanderlibel

I acknowledge that sexism exists. THAT MUST MAKE ME SEXIST.

UPDATE: It seems the article is now available. Has this been toned down? Click here to read.

UPDATE 2: Yes, it seems the post has been HEAVILY edited, as well as many of the original comments removed. Free press my backside. This lot are making a totalitarian mockery of blogging.

Nailing our colours to the mast

Spurred on by those doyens of soundness at the Libertarian Alliance, Jonathan Isaby asks readers if a libertarian can also be a Conservative.

We think the question is rendered the height of absurdity by discussing who grassroots members call their political heroes, most of whom are libertarians: Baroness Thatcher, Dan Hannan, Boris Johnson (Ed: enough said). Whilst those that think libertarians have no place in the party can pour their adulation on Ted Heath, the Wintertons, and John Bercow. Lucky them.

The free market is certainly no longer all that unites the party. Since David Davis’s stand last year, we haven’t heard a Conservative member sincerely advocate NOT rolling back Labour’s authoritarianism. And, particularly amongst young members, the permissiveness and acceptance of other peoples, belief systems, and lifestyles is dominant. If Michael Rock, Patrick Sullivan, and Christian May be for it, who can be against it?

Despite the laudable (but limited) attempts by Liberal Vision to turn the Lib Dems away from socialism, no other major party offers hope for libertarians. Thus, we’d go as far as to say that, if they want to be taken seriously politically, libertarians have no other option but to be Conservatives.

Keep Conservative, and Keep Right.

Revolution, Comrades!

Unleash a libertarian revolution, my Conservative Comrades!

#welovetheNHS? Part 2

Posted on 26. Aug, 2009 by keeprightonline in United Kingdom

Of course this #welovetheNHS row has been going on for a few weeks now. The Labour Party quickly adopted said hashtag on Twitter as a retort to the comments made by Daniel Hannan MEP that they felt demeaned or devalued socialised healthcare. (Ed: Did you just say ’socialised healthcare?!)

Far from claiming this is entirely true, KeepRightOnline noticed a tweet today by the infamous Dizzy, regarding the establishment of the #welovethenhs hashtag. See the picture below for details.

loveit

Say it ain’t so Prezza? It’s not like you to jump on a bandwagon, and if it were, well…

H/T to Dizzy Tweets Thinks

John Prescott. Why, universe? Why?

Posted on 20. Aug, 2009 by keeprightonline in United Kingdom

A lot of people have questioned over the past few weeks, my unrelenting retorts to @JohnPrescott, one Mr. Blair’s former lackie, and now Commander-in-Chief of Labour’s Online Army of Deception. With his trusty padawan, @KerryMP and plenty of help, I’m sure- Prezza has declared himself the “King of Twitter” and challenged various people (who wouldn’t be seen dead around him) to “Twitter debates” and other blogging banter.

It’s by no means statesman-like behaviour from the former First Secretary of State, as John attempts to goad political opponents into non-debates and claims victory through non-participation of the wiser party. Unfortunately, John- some people have day jobs. I wonder what the people of your constituency would think to know all you do all day long is sit at the laptop or blackberry thinking of tenuous and childish ways to try and destablise your foes? If I were a constituent of Hull East, I’d sooner vote Socialist Worker’s Party than for this twat twitterer. (Ed: Uh… really?)

John’s recent tirades have been against David Cameron, Andrew Lansley, Daniel Hannan and George Osborne, and his activities on the shabby, “GoFourth.co.uk” are funded centrally by the Labour Party. So what has he achieved? Well, a quick look at the UK Polling Report average polling figures puts the Tories squarely on 42 points, the Lib Dems on 19 and Labour on a measly 27. Good job, John! That’s a mighty fine use of time.

poll

Finally, I’d like to pass comment on how Prescott is actually more likely worsening the situation for the Labour Party.

No one even knows who’s leading the Party and the country currently, with Mandelson vying for power, Harperson looking to purge Labour of all men and Miliband twiddling his schoolboy-like moustache in the wings. John’s emergence from the murky depths of anonymity have further blurred the lines between who is really the driving force in this farce of a government. His negative and tactless spin further implicates Labour in their negative campaigning ways- and his baseless accusations will only firm up what the public already know. Labour STILL isn’t working- and nor should Prezza be.

I’m sure you’ve seen this hashtag floating about. It’s Prezza’s Labour’s ‘response’ to the Daniel Hannan non-story that’s been about for the past week or so. Before we go any further I should mention:

backinghannan

But the story that has emerged today is that Labour might love the NHS (maybe even half as much as the Tories do) but they don’t particularly love the people who USE the NHS.

See here for the latest critique from Shadow Health Secretary Andrew Lansley on Labour’s inability to curtail superbugs and infections within the NHS. All this on the day that we learn NHS sickness is rife, and over 50% higher than private sector equivalents. Ouch.

Setting the record straight.

A good morning for fair and balanced discourse. Lately, sensationalist headlines have been dominating ’silly season’ about the so called ’split’ within the Conservative Party. Our greatest representatives have been labelled eccentrics (a title I would be quite pleased to have bestowed upon me) and been critiqued heavily for their prescience and downright ballsyness.

KeepRightOnline got fed up with the half truths and decided to pencil this short paragraph for the letters section in the Metro. Perhaps we’ll slowly set the record straight.
