Fuck you, Obama.

Fuck you, Obama.

So the US refuses to endorse British sovereignty in Falklands oil dispute, according to the The Times this morning.  As one man put it, “How many wars do you have to fight together to get the Yanks onside?” Well, perhaps that oversimplifies it but the Obama administration has stated that the decision is based on a long standing neutrality.

Sorry, I seem to recall a politician with conviction backing Margaret Thatcher when the United Kingdom took the decision to retake the Falklands in 1982.  His name, if you don’t recall, was Ronald Reagan.  You can read about him here:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronald_Reagan (That’s for you, Barack)

Alright well, as if it wasn’t long overdue anyway, I’m now calling for Britain’s complete withdrawl from Afghanistan and Iraq including logistical and intelligence support that we have so kindly provided to our ‘allies’.

Stickin’ it to ‘One-Term Barry’

Taking the time out this morning in my favourite Starbucks to enjoy a triple Caramel Machiatto (with an extra shot after last night), I came across these fabulous collection of pictures, which graced by e-mail inbox courtesy of the ubersound @ChristianJMay

It seems Barry’s budget plans have rubbed the American people up the wrong way.  How’s that whole ‘Hopey Changey’ thing going now, Mr. President?

Our State of the Union prayers answered

Posted on 28. Jan, 2010 by OHC in United Kingdom

Yesterday, we urged Barack Obama to follow our, and Cato’s, lead in his State of the Union address. Regulation and reckless spending got us into the recession – only capitalism can get us out.

Obama, of course, did not do as we suggested. But fear not. Not only did Virginia’s (new) Governor Bob McDonnell deliver the Republicans’ official reply, but you get a second helping from (old) Congressman Ron Paul. Enjoy.

State of the ULTRASOUND

Cato has published a blog wish list ahead of Obama’s first State of the Union address tonight. Obama’s first year in office was crap. Absolutely crap. The only redeeming feature is that he’s been so crap that he hasn’t been able to impose Obamacare on America. If he implements these simple policies, we promise his second year will be a lot better:

1. Abandon Obamacare
2. Forget Cap and Trade
3. Reject the Card Check Bill
4. Withdraw from Iraq and Afghanistan
5. Legalize Drugs
6. Scrap the tax code and replace with a flat tax
7. Expand free trade and immigration
8. Stop the bailouts
9. Cut spending
10. Cut spending
BONUS – Cut spending

Can’t say fairer than that! We bet you anything Obama doesn’t listen to a single one of these policies. But that’s the downside of being so frigging ultrasound.

Where’s the politicians’ Financial Crisis Responsibility Fee?!

Posted on 15. Jan, 2010 by OHC in United Kingdom

The US government’s plan to impose $100bn of fees on banks cannot go down well. The Orwellian-titled ‘Financial Crisis Responsibility Fee’ is a mockery of everything that American government ought to uphold: freedom, fairness… the Constitution.

It will cost British banks $11bn, despite them manifestly having nothing to do with America. It’s retrospective: grabbing money off people without them having a chance to modify their behaviour. And, of course, it misses the point entirely. And that’s the financial crisis was caused by government.

The US government has already accepted that its own banks, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, lied about mortgages. The FDIC, the government’s bank insurance company has joined everyone with common sense and blamed the Federal Reserve’s loose monetary policy. And, of course, the FDIC itself was responsible for encouraging riskier borrowing than the free market would have tolerated. The same story applies in Britain, but with Brownian incompetence.

When you put it that way… where do the politicians get the gall to tax anyone else for ‘Financial Crisis Responsibility’? They should be footing the bill by paying the Financial Crisis Responsibility Fee: every last penny of it.

Left foot forward…

Left foot forward…

The Daily Mirror led today with yet another pathetic personal smear on the Conservative leadership. Apparently, they’re successful, so they’re not allowed to pass policies that reward success. Hmm. Jonathan Isaby has put that argument in its place.

But what about the left? Labour’s a party filled with, and supported enthusiastically by, trade unionist, career politicians, and bureaucrats. They may have a vested interest in making the government big and crush the private sector that employs everyone else. But you don’t hear the Mirror say that, do you?

I haven’t seen any analysis of how much private sector experience British governments over the ages have had, but there’s a clear trend in the US. This chart from JP Morgan is damning.
Private sector in US Cabinets

If the President surrounds himself with bureaucrats, of course they’re going to give him advice that reflects well on the civil service. And, maybe, just maybe, that hurts the private sector that made America such a rich country in the first place.

Serious props to whoever makes a chart like that for the UK. No prizes for guessing which party has had the least private sector experience.

Clutching at straws

Tory Bear highlights Obama stumping for Jon Corzine in a desperate attempt to save the corrupt governor from defeat in a neck-and-neck race in New Jersey. In recent days, Obama, Bill Clinton, Joe Biden, and just about every other top-draw Democrat has poured into the Garden State to help save the former banker’s political skin.

But whilst it’s not the only race today, it’s the only one the Democrats stand a chance of salvaging any respectability from. In Virginia, which voted for Obama last November, the Republican gubernatorial candidate holds an 18-point lead. In a stunning upset, New York’s 23rd Congressional District is set to be picked up by the Conservative Party, having been vacated by a moderate Republican. And New York City will surely confirm quasi-libertarian former Republican Michael Bloomberg as its mayor the the third time, sparking yet more rumours of a presidential run in 2012.

His health plan are tattered, and his candidates soon to be scattered, once-invincible Obama is now clutching at straws.

Analogy of the week

Analogy of the week

Fabio Capello proved himself sound as a pound by comparing the decision to award David Beckham the Man of the Match award against Belarus to Barack Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize. Beckham played for just 31 seconds minutes: only marginally shorter than the two weeks for which Barack Obama was President before he was nominated.

Progress... to the World Cup

Progress... to the World Cup

After 115 caps, we’re not sure if Beckham constitutes ‘change’, per se. Then again, the same’s true of Barack Obama.

Spot the difference

The man’s on a roll.

October 2009: Barack Obama flies to Copenhagen, gives a fancy speech to the world, and leaves empty handed, with America having lost out and the developing world celebrating their victory.

December 2009: Barack Obama flies to Copenhagen, gives a fancy speech to the world, and leaves empty handed, with America having lost out and the developing world celebrating their victory.

Say it ain’t so.

Was the trip worth it, Mr President?

Nice to see President Obama flying to Copenhagen to back the Chicago Olympic bid, only to see them go out in the first round of voting. But, hey, at least his cap-and-tax climate alarmist friends will be pleased that he flew all that way just to give one speech, stay there for five hours in total, then fly home again.

Perhaps he’d like to explain to the American people that he’s taxing another $161bn to help ‘prevent climate change’ that it was worth it to fly Air Force One to another continent just so the President could be associated with others’ hard work, just as Blair did to grab the limelight from Seb Coe in 2005, but FAIL. We don’t think it was.

Maybe, just maybe, Barack Obama isn’t all he’s cracked up to be.

Update: The CNN anchor’s reaction to Chicago losing out in the first ballot is priceless. He literally cannot believe that it has happened! “Madrid is still in?! Tokyo is still in?! Wait a minute… Chicago is out?!”
