EXCLUSIVE: Interview with a UKIP defector
Posted on 30. Nov, 2009 by RK in United Kingdom
Recently, the man known only as ‘Andy’ came to the stark realisation that the UK Independence Party were, in his words, “a corrupt party.” Today, thanks to an exclusive source, KeepRightOnline brings you a short interview regarding what changed Andy’s mind about UKIP, and why he’s now a card carrying member of the Conservative Party again.
1. What first attracted to joining you to the UK Independence Party?
I’ve always considered myself a eurosceptic traditional conservative, and became increasingly concerned with Labour practically handing over powers to the bureaucrats in the European Union. After seeing UKIP’s European election success I thought they would be the number 1 party to join that addressed my concerns.
2. What were your experiences like in UKIP?
I’d say mainly positive. My (now ex-) regional organiser has even said he supports me whatever I do, because it is my life.
The member forums helped me a lot with any questions, and most users were friendly. I say were because when I left I got nothing but slander – like John Botting saying “it’s better for UKIP if you leave”, or words to that effect, as I can’t check due to me be banned from the members’ forum because I am no longer a member. No doubt I am probably getting slandered on the forum now, it’s just a shame I can’t defend myself or expose their hypocritical attacks, as they were kind to me before leaving.
3. Would you agree that UKIP are a barrier to the Eurosceptic movement in Britain by consistently shooting themselves in the foot?
Yes, a corrupt party trying to expose the EU for it’s corruptness seems a tad bit hypocritical to me.
a lot of their candidates are just “paper candidates” who won’t bother campaigning to win
4. What led you to decide to resign from UKIP?
Well I was considering going back to the Conservatives after my ‘year break’, as whilst I am passionately anti-EU, I want to be in a party that focuses on more than one issue, including local issues.
The final nail in the coffin that convinced me to send the email canceling my membership was the slander of me on their members’ forum. Like they said, may be it’s best if I’m not in UKIP (eh John Botting?) and Jonathan off the forums wouldn’t like me in his branch anyway (far away – but still, principle – I might’ve decided to move to his branch area).
5. What would you say to those considering lending a vote to UKIP in the upcoming General Election?
I got told a lot of their candidates are just “paper candidates” who won’t bother campaigning to win… So why bother? They don’t exactly sound committed. Surely a political party should select a candidate who is enthusiastic about representing the people?
6. What made you choose the Conservatives?
They were my original party and my silly one year experiment seems to have come to an end. At least with the Conservatives you have a strong voice, whilst working towards a less-federal Europe which Labour have thrown us in to.
Whatever you make of this, it’s clear to see that there have been a wave of recent defections or disgruntled members leaving the UK Independence Party. Rumours are the Lib Dems aren’t fairing much better either. When many are pinning their hopes on an early 2010 general election, UKIP seem to have resigned themselves to being a lost cause (Ed: Pearson to go?!). Watch this space for further breaking information.
Credit where it’s due for the source of this.

My first online interview and it’s by my much read KeepRightOnline!
As someone who Andy probably considers was nasty to him, I have to say he brought much of it on himself. As one would expect from a 15 year old he is politically naive. As some one commented:
‘I just find it amusing that the blog took seriously a 15 year old who, to the best of my knowledge, has been a Conservative, youth activist in BNP, UKIP member, UAF member and now a Conservative member once again.’
I think he has a long way to go before he should seriously consider politics as a career. I say that with no insult intended.
A man ?
that’s pushing credulity a bit far… what is he 15 ? He should never have been in UKIP in the first place a) because he was under 16 and constitutionally unable to be a member and b) his previous involvement with the HJ
I had rather hoped it was me who persuaded the child to leave, 16 and on his 4th(?) party….
yeah, right, valuable catch there !
Is he old enough yet to join the Conservatives ?
Is This the same 15yr old Andy grey who was previously with BNP, UAF, Conservative and UKIP, all before sixteenth birthday?
So are Conservatives accepting ex-BNP and ex-UAF juvinile activists now?
very committed.
If you are trying to destroy UKIP you need to do better than this!
Grow up!
I just find it amusing that the blog took seriously a 15 year old who, to the best of my knowledge, has been a Conservative, youth activist in BNP, UKIP member, UAF member and now a Conservative member once again.
Scraping the bottom of a barrel springs to mind!
Wholly accept the criticism but your ageist opinion is quite telling of the political attitude in a lot of parties right now. Be he 15 or 50, why should his views be any less prevalent? Perhaps we could have stated he was 15, but nonetheless I find it abhorrent that you would write someones opinions off based on their age. Especially as you point out he’s been around the block a bit.
Open your mind, my friend.
I’d rather I messed around at my age to find my ‘political self’. I regret taking the ‘year out’ from the Tories, but thankfully I’m back home now.
Also, I was never a UAF member. It’s amazing how people use rumours as fact.
My journey:
Conservative > Shameful Party > UKIP > Conservative (back home)
This time I’m back, and better than ever because now I’m prepared against the nasty people like the commentors
hes 15 and yet he thinks hes a man of the world with this insight and from his past affiliations cant seem to find a party to stay in. not to mention he has skin as thick as tissue paper, and if ur happy to join the cons and help sell your nation down the river then poor you
Sell my nation down the river? Really, is that the best you can do?
interesting that those criticising him of having been a BNP activist were the same ones defending him when the shoe was on the other foot.
the same ones attacking him now were the same ones screaming blue murder when others were attacking him.
hypocrits beyond reason.
and also, again, the same members criticising him for changing parties are ones whom I know for a fact were members of two previous parties before UKIP!
Bob FM has tried to join the Tories but was rejected, so went back to UKIP
EPIC FAIL to the UKIP goblins!
http://haddock-somethingfishy.blogspot.com/2009/11/keep-right-or-carry-on.html
the best i can do hmmmm yes because its the truth
yes its ok to jump ship if your leaving a party that is destrying this nation and joining one thats saving it, not the other way round
Lee, you’ve proved my point.
UKIP Goblins fail yet again
I wonder if Bob FM has finally given up trying to weasel his way in to the local Tories?
REJECTED
Judging by the uglyness of Robert Fael Martiness no wonder a young person offends him:

eurgh!
so you talk about looks lol your the only goblin i wonder how old you r? and how di fail i trounce you, get used to it, seems you will have a life full of it.
amusing to see all these UKIP members posting comments and not one of them responding or bothering to defend the interviewee pointing out that ukip are corrupt and won’t bother putting out proper candidates.
says it all really!
BobFM is a nasty little man, hated by all the members, racist to the extent even UKIP members get offended.
Look guys, the whole point of this blogg was too try to sensationalize and buid a big “Anti-UKIP” story.
In perspective: Andy is young at 15, ok that’s not the problem, this is:
Andy was BNP, a facist, then UAF against facists, then Conservative pro EU, then UKIP anti-EU Commission and back to conservatives again.
Didn’t know Conservatives were taking in ex-BNP facist members. Have you asked Nick Griffalump to join you yet? Is it a numbers thing???
Dear Moderator, I wish you to post this comment and I accept total responsibility for it’s content.
‘ David Stokes you are a liar.
1. I have never been rejected by the Conservative Party as I never applied to join.
2. I have never left UKIP, I merely resigned my official positions.
3. I was invited to join the Swindon Conservative Group by one of their PPC’s.
You sir are a lair. As for the personal insult I guess that perhaps sums up the type of person you are.
Excuse me steve ish? Do you bother to at least try and get your facts right?
I am not, and never have believed in, fascism, nor am I pro-EU.
Can I call you Islamophobic?
Robert Fael Martiness, tell your UKIP members what they like, we on our side know the truth.
‘Steve’; so it’s ok for UKIP to take on apparent BNP members but not the Conservatives?
Come on, it’s like you’re trying to define the word hypocrite!
Please provide me with your contact details Mr Stokes and I will happily get my solicitor to contact you. Please withdraw your lies now. On your side of what by the way.
Terry I note your anonymous courage. What an odd comment, many members accuse me of being a Muslim apologist. I guess you also know all 16000 UKIP members personally then.
I find it most odd that I should be the one attacked when others have posted far worse, but I guess that is the consequence of being open and transparent and not hiding behind nick names.
just a good laugh seeing UKIP being criticised for putting out paper candidates. were you all awake during the EU sham elections?
LibLabCon kept their heads down and relied on the mail shot to do the job. there was no campaigning done ! Even the TV broadcast by Cameroon was about expenses and never mentioned EUrope. The lad featured in this ‘factual’ article just highlights why 16 year olds should not be given the vote.
DEFECTIONS FROM UKIP TO CONSERVATIVE ? You are having a laugh.
In the days following Camerons half witted attempt to apear Eurosceptic following the ratification of Lisbon, we signed up 258 new members, many of them Ex-Torries.
Following Lord Pearson becoming leader, this weekend another 50.
You may say what you wish about Ukip, But we are the party thats moving upward!
Neale (Ukip head office worker)
more ukip ex members then members, fact
fastest growing party? doubt it
you’re doing so well u feel the need to try and tell the world, ok.
try again
and of course a 19 year old bog standard member of ukip has open access to their national membership records, yeh, right.
